About and method
What it is
Keeping Current is a free email, twice a month, with the new dental research worth knowing: at most 10 papers, in plain English, readable in under five minutes.
How papers are chosen
- Every day we record every new paper in the dental journals, and dental papers in medical journals, from PubMed, Crossref and OpenAlex.
- For each issue, AI screens every paper of the fortnight and writes short summaries for the strongest.
- Each summary's numbers and claims are checked against the abstract, and against the full text where the licence allows. The papers are then ranked side by side.
- The method is overseen by a board-certified dental specialist, who approves every issue.
What's in an issue
- TL;DR: three lines.
- Guidelines: new guidance that changes what to do.
- Key Studies: the strongest new research.
- Cases: one patient or a small series.
- Early Research: lab and animal studies, not yet tested in patients.
A section with nothing worth your time is left out.
AI
Summaries are AI-generated, mostly from abstracts. Check the original paper before changing practice.
What we never show
Abstracts, full text or figures: every paper links to the original. No scores.
Sponsors
There are no sponsors. If that changes, sponsored content will always be labelled and will never affect which papers are chosen.
Errors
Every summary has a "Report an error" link. We read every report and log every correction.
Privacy
- No accounts and no ad trackers.
- Your email address is kept by our email provider, Kit, only to send Keeping Current.
